ORCA is developing a distribution Plug-In Hybrid truck to be able to cope with future ZEZ (Zero Emission Zones) restrictions in cities and urban areas.
The truck hardware build has been finalised (see photo above) and the engineering team is now focusing on making the control systems work for the first stage of the release process, where only the ZEZ driving will be contemplated.
Very soon the truck will be sent to TNO’s facilities for testing the ZEZ capabilities. There the electric axle concept will be tested in a range of different driving conditions to support model development and calibration.
Once the truck is turned into a PHEV, testing will mimic the transport assignments of regional and city distribution trucks, with different assumptions on charging infrastructure and conditions. After testing and validation have been completed, the demonstrator will be revealed to the public.
